City of Newport Gymnastic Club

Welcome to our Club web site. You will find up to date information about our Club and be able to contact us via this site. Our Club is located at the Newport International Sports Village. We are a friendly and successful British & Welsh Gymnastics registered club. There are many Disciplines within the British Gymnastics organisation and our club specializes in the discipline 'Men's and Women's Artistic' Gymnastics. To put this into perspective, it is the gymnastics that includes the olympic apparatus - floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, asymmetric bars, horizontal bar, balance beam, parallel bars. We also include general gymnastic activities including trampette and air track display team and the proficiency award schemes.

Our training area is the former Solutions Fitness suite located in the squash courts building and we teach a variety of gymnastics to boys and girls. We cater for all abilities and currently have over 100 participants with a support team of 5 qualified coaches and 4 former senior gymnast helpers. The Club operates Monday to Friday during late afternoon/early evening. The timetable of classes can be seen by clicking the link. To enquire about spaces, please complete your details on our web page and we will contact you as soon as a place arises. The start age for gymnasts is 4 years 6 months or they must be in reception class in school (whichever is the earlier). The Club is very popular and has a healthy recreational and competition group membership with a relatively small waiting list.

Progression

Gymnasts are given every opportunity to fulfill their maximum potential in gymnastics. All children start in our recreational class and are carefully selected for competition by the senior coaches. Girls are selected at quite a young age (5 – 7 years old) for competitive gymnastics, or if they are older and have transferred from another club as an experienced competitor. Boys are selected from age 6 – 8 years for competitive gymnastics. Children who attend the recreational class will work towards the British Gymnastics Proficiency Awards (these are progressive) and will enjoy working on all competitive equipment at a basic level with a qualified coach. At the end of each year, the children are awarded their certificates and badges and perform their skills at the annual display & presentation in front of their families and friends. Some recreational gymnasts will be selected for displays. Our displays are vital for the continued success of the club and are of the highest standard. Gymnasts are carefully selected to represent the Club Display Team at minor and major events in and around the City.

Competitive Gymnasts

Competitive gymnasts train hard with us. From a very young age they are highly disciplined and work both as a squad and individually. They are also carefully selected to represent the Club at Welsh competitions during the year provided they meet the necessary standard. All our squad gymnasts are given short medium and long term targets that are achievable and the parents of squad gymnasts are kept fully aware of their progress. We have enjoyed several successes with our competitive gymnasts over the past 8 years including Welsh gold, silver and bronze positions both team and individual. We are proud of our track record and are always striving to reach new heights.
